This producer sources its grapes from La Cave des Vignerons, a cooperative of producers located across the southern Rhône Valley, where the majority of the wines have similar soil types and ripening conditions, promoting consistent quality from one vintage to the next.
"When I started with Majestic, Cotes du Rhone was never my red. No thanks, I was all blockbuster Shiraz and cassis-led Cabernet, me and me Dad, back in Liverpool. Yet nowadays I increasingly turn to the South of France for wines that offer something different, balancing a different type of fruit on a lighter body and alcohol. Wines like this. Youthful, cherry and raspberry flavours on a deft body and mid-level alcohol. At £3.99 I wouldn't have recognised it 4 years ago, but I do now. It's a steal. You can take the boy out of Liverpool... A lovely Chardonnay; produced on chalky soils in cooler high-altitude temperatures. This offers plenty of acidity, delicate fruit and a pleasing minerality which gives a persistent finish.
The grapes are cool-fermented to preserve the trademark gooseberry and blackcurrant leaf aromas. Supremely fresh and balanced, this refreshing white will partner seafood or light oriental stir-frys.
Cabardès brings together the grapes of Bordeaux and Rhône in its blends. This rosé is made in the 'saignée' method, where the grapes have very little skin contact, ensuring a delicate, light wine.
Classic demi-sec white, with Chenin's apple and citrus fruit character delivered with the refreshing acidity typical of the wines of the Loire. Superb with those hard-to-match spicy chicken dishes.
