Calais Guide: Summer Events

There's plenty to go over to France for apart from the wine this summer, here are some suggestions from our staff for things going on in Calais and the surrounding areas.*

June

  • From the 15th of June to the 15th of September, go and have a ride along the Calais dyke on the Rosalies (pedal carts), or for a more relaxed experience on pony or horse drawn cart. There's plenty for the children too, with a skate park, play ground and even mini golf course on the sea front.
  • On the 21st of June, the National Music festival 'la fete de la musique', celebrating all types of music takes place in the streets and bars of Calais north.

July

  • Don't miss the International Parade starting on the 1st of July, with lots of bands from various countries.
  • On Monday 14th of July there are the braderies (car boot sales) and fire works on Calais beach.
  • The 26 and 27th are beach sports weekend in Calais.
  • This year Calais town is putting on free guided bus tours of the town, on the Div'in bus, taking in the main sites of Calais. From the 1st of July onwards make the most of this free tour to discover the rich cultural and historical heritage of Calais.

August

  • On the 3rd of August the 'Braderie du Vauxhall' is the occasion for people to empty out their attics, the equivalent to a car boot sale and ideal for those who love to root around second hand items looking for bargains!
  • At the end of August don’t miss the 'journée des peintres dans la rue', a day of street painting in Calais.
