A Cheese Shop

Calais Guide: Shops

Let’s face it, the festive season is all about the shopping but with the credit crunch affecting many of our purses, you don’t have to travel far into France to experience great value shopping. Calais has an abundance of places where you can pick up great Christmas gifts on Les 4 Boulevards in the town centre and Marques Avenue’s designer outlet centre. Ideal for the fashion conscious shopper. There is also the large shopping centre Cite d’Europe 5minutes drive from our Coquelles store.*

Clothes

  • Les 4 Boulevards (the 4 B’s), located in the centre of Calais around Boulevard Jacquard, is the perfect shopping experience with 50 boutiques, as well as Bars and Restaurants.
  • The Designer Outlet Centre on Marques Avenue (close to our Coquelles store), situated by the Eurotunnel is great for reduced designer clothes.

Cheese and Delicatessens

  • La Maison du Fromage in Calais Nord is perfect for stocking up on specialty and local cheeses, and even locally-produced jams and mustards. As Oz Clarke said, "Maison du Fromage is a reminder that one of the reasons for going to Calais is to have a really good day out" (Daily Mail, December 2006).
  • On Rue Royal do not miss Délice des Mets, a French delicatessen, you’ll find a selection of Foie gras and caviar and lots of other specialities, not available in French Hypermarkets.

Chocolates and Pastries

  • In the centre of Calais, along the Boulevard Lafayette, you can find fantastic pastries from the baker and patisserie 'St Pierre/Artisan Copaline' and from 'aux Chardons de la Cote d’Opale'.
  • As well as these 2 shops you can enjoy the delightful Chocolats de Beussent next to la place Crevecoeur.
  • Still in the Centre of the town, on Boulevard Jacquart, you’ll find another wonderful bakers/patisserie called Aux Délices de Calais.
  • In Calais Nord au Royal Chocolat is another delicious sweet and chocolate shop.

Lace

For an authentic souvenir from Calais go to Royal Dentelle, a specialist in Calais lace, table cloths, napkins and especially lingerie…This is the last lace shop in Calais, situated in the Boulevard Jacquart, 50 meters from the town hall.

Markets

Markets in Calais are well worth a visit. They offer a good range of vegetables, fruits, flowers, meat, and farm produce.
