The UK duty on alcohol is at a record high having been increased above inflation again this year.
When you buy a bottle of wine for £3.99 in the UK, you're now paying a total of £2.20 in tax including VAT - more than half the cost! Avoid this tax by shopping in France where duty on wine is still roughly 3p a bottle.
